Play Your iPod With Xbox 360

If you want to connect your iPod to your Xbox 360 and be able to play your music you are going to need to download the free Optional Media Update to play unprotected music (AAC format), which is the format that the iPod and Zune uses. I found this how-to which explains how to download it on the old dashboard. Here are the instructions on how to download the update on the New Xbox Experience dashboard.

1. Sign in to Xbox Live
2. Press the Xbox Guide Button (the big silver X button in the center of the controller)
3. Go to Marketplace
4. Select Game Marketplace
5. Scroll down and select All Games
6. Select the letter "O"
7. Download the Optional Media Update (4.64 MB as the time of this writing)

As of this writing you can't play music or video from your iPod Touch or iPhone, but you can see pictures. The reason is because the iPod and iPhone use a different path than the previous generation of iPods.

Thanks, I didn't know what software to download from the marketplace. I did know that it was needed to play my Classic 80GB Ipod.

You can't download the music from your iPod to your Xbox (at least in a legal way). You can only play your iPod through the Xbox

Here's the thing guys. It's not a problem with the newer iPods, it's a problem with the newer form of music that gets downloaded off the iTunes store. Nowadays, we're up to MP4. There may be a new update or whatever, but I've not looked into that. You can however, go into iTunes and right click on all of your songs, then hit "create AAC version" This may degrade sound quality on the actual iPod, but I'm not sure. I haven't tried any of this, but it sounds like this is your guys' problem.

I am having the same problem as everyone else.  I did the update a few weeks ago and it specifically said "Xbox Users will now be able to use their Apple products".  I went and downloaded (and redownloaded) the Optional Media Update and it still is not working for me.  This is really starting to get annoying!  It's bad enough Xbox was stupid and took off the option to watch shows and movies with Netflix Xbox buddies, but then they say they added the option to do Apple products and yet almost everyone I know cannot get it to work.  Do I need a magic wand or something?

I don't know what is the problem, when I plug my ipod nano fifth gen(the one with the camera), i click the xbox button, go to media, click on select music, and can play a shuffled version of my ipod, or can go to music player app, select my ipod, and my songs in abc order are all displayed, and I pick whichever I want. I run the latest updates with an xbox slim 250 gigabyte model.

hey all you guys need to do is open your xbox live menu 'hit the green\silver circle on your controller' then scroll over to the media tab there you want to hit select music now this will only work with nano's and not touches because when apple came out with all the new updates that is only for the ipod touches\iphones they disabled the music file reader to be compatable with windows devices such as xbox there are a couple apps out there that can enable you to listen to your ipod over wi fi but it isn't the greatest sorry guys who have touches your pretty much skrewed.

ok so the easiest way to get your music of ipod with all the latest updates

you need wifi or adhoc connection for your ipod

download the appsync:stream

open the app and wait a minute it will say that you now can stream music to any dlna compatible device(bassicly your xbox :p)

go to your xbox and there you will see"sincmusicserver["your ipod nam"]

then you will have all your ipod music streamed to your xbox

tnx for reading
